What do you get “the man who has everything”?
Or, in my case, what do you get the man who doesn’t want anything but if he did, he would have gone out and gotten it himself?
Answer: You get him something he can’t find in a store, something only YOU can give him… QT with his favourite child(ren).
In our family, we show our love through food. The planning, preparing, serving and enjoying the company is the ultimate show of gratitude and appreciation.
I’m a typical Daddy’s Girl. My dad likes to remind me that it’s a “pleasant surprise” when he gets a call from me that doesn’t involve begging for money (ie. “for groceries”), asking him to make home repairs (ie. changing an lightbulb) or demanding a lift to somewhere obscure (ie. Laval, ie. shopping). So for father’s day, the most meaningful and appreciated gift I could ever give my old man was an invitation to dinner and a movie with my brother and I – which, in my household, is code for Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Looney Tunes Golden Collection screening. Papa Haze’s two favorite things.
Dad’s imitation of the Tasmanian Devil’s Wild Turkey Surprise (using his pulled pork as a prop!), mine of the Scarlet P-p-p-p-p-umpernickel and my bro’s of the Elmer Fudd fruit salad haircut is followed up with a grand finale reenactment of Bugs as the conductor Leopold… the laughs said it all: this dinner is worth all the gifts in the world.
I’m not gonna lie, this dish takes meticulous planning, timing is essential. While you’ll need plenty of time (16+ hrs total), the actual pre-dinner prep execution is super simple and quick.
There’s only one more thing I can say about this recipe: it’s THE best Pulled Pork I have ever ever eveerrrrr made and it comes out perfect EVERY SINGLE TIME!
