Alright, this past week has been an adventure to say the least. I went to NYC on Tuesday and came home very late last night. What an amazing, completely exhausting trip. NYC itself was amazing! I rented this gorgeous high rise apartment in Midtown East/Times Square and chilled with my boyfriend and friends for the duration. We visited Central Park Zoo (recommended for a chill stroll through the gorgeous Central Park) – great people, great times.
FINALLY!! My stomach is doing somersaults on the ferry to Electric Zoo because I am so excited. We visited Araabmuzik and Jaytech at the very beginning and Jaytech was pretty awesome to rally to. Following this we made our way to the front of the main stage… Alvin Risk whaaaaaat. He was awesome, I love how we spins in such nerdy attire.
We heard Nicky Romero later for a bit, great Dutch house. I also caught the legit tail end of Gabriel & Dresden JUST as Tracking Treasure Down was on. AHHHHH, G&D are practically what introduced me to EDM over a decade ago.
Next up was Ferry Crosten. Ferry was….Ferry. He was obviously amazing, caman. I am also soooo proud of my friend Zoe who had the opportunity to interview Ferry in all his trancey, Dutch glory. I’m sure she killed it! Friday closed with Mat Zo, Guetta (meeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh), Above & Beyond and Pretty Lights, booyakasha!
Saturday was my favorite day! I went to EZOO and partied with my boyfriend’s friends, one of whom broke his leg earlier this summer and came in a wheelchair. We were granted access to a special platform for him by the main stage which was PERFECT for Day 2 – the business friggin’ day ever. There were soooo many people it was INSANE. Ultra never felt that claustrophobic.
Bingo Players KILLED IT, see the video below for a small taste.
I heard both Martin Solveig and 12th Planet from about 50 feet away. My body, however, demanded that I park myself on the grass and rest with my crew for a while (a necessity for all outdoor festivals). Axwell was GREAT and the festival ended with Above & Beyond again…the perfect ending to the perfect day.
Started off the day with Adventure Club…yup…reppin’ Montreal.
I was actually REALLY tired by Day 3, my poor body was telling me to go home, make some tea, curl up in a soft blankie and take a nap. Hello, my name is Jesse. EDM has affected my hearing and even though I look 23, I’m actually 75. Where did I put my glasses again?
Both W&W and Krewella killed it and then I literally parked myself at the main stage for the rest of the day. BOOM – Dash Berlin, Porter (underwhelming despite all the hype, sad face) and KNIFE PARTY (yezzzzzz).
Everything was GREAT until Dev came on. Cue me bouncing – who wants to hear that noise? She was the odd man out and all the losers got up and danced. Excuse you but we are at a rave, not a club. By the time Tiesto came on we were just too tired to do anything but sway further down on the grass. I have to say, even from somewhat afar it was beautiful. There is a reason he has been on the scene for so long and that reason is Chasing Summer and his continuous slew of chart-toppers. We went hard at Zeds Dead which was definitely worth the short walk over and I am not ashamed to admit that I left BEFORE SKRILLEX. Sacrilege? Nah. I’ve seen him a bunch of times and even though I love and adore Skrillex, I knew what to expect and just wanted to avoid that crazy mass of people leaving at the end of the night. Good call JV, good call.
This was my first Electric Zoo and it did not disappoint. There were so many incredible acts it was almost impossible to keep track of who was on at what time on which stage. In the end, I really didn’t care. As corny an Hallmarky as it sounds, I was just happy to be there and enjoy it with people I love. YOLOOOOOO. There, I said it.
